Hello everyone! Manny Calavera here. I recently won this item on an eBay and thought I would like to share it with you. As you may know by following the blog, I am a big enthusiast when it comes to anything pertaining to the all-girl topless bands of yesteryear, The Ladybirds being at the heart of this fascination.
It is just crazy that, any time I think I’ve found all there is to find on the band, something new always seems to surface. It’s simply incredible. Within the past two months I have acquired three new crucial pieces to add to my Ladybirds book project. Special thanks goes to Vintagenudistfan of Candy Earle Fan for tipping me off to these relics.
With that, let’s take a look at what I got from. The eBay auction. It is Photo print of the band that possibly dates all the way back to 1966 or 1967. On the back of the photo it specifically states that the band has no name yet. The Ladybirds didn’t have a name until some time in ’67.
As you can see, another clue as to the date in which this photo was taken is in the band’s wardrobe. They’re only wearing pants and shoes, which is all they had for “costumes.” It wasn’t until later that the fashion world had begun to create special topless garments like dresses and swimsuits. Remember, these ladiesand others in the Broadway North Beach, California scene were at the forefront of the topless movement, so it makes sense the fashion took some time to catch up.
The photo taken also clearly shows that the girls are clearly performing at Type’s because of the design of the stage at Type’s. It is a dead on match. The band’s current lineup consists of Lisa Lynn on guitar, Marcelle Mitchel on bass, Rosita Quintana on drums, and Robin Sherwood on lead guitar and vocals.
I apologise for the poor quality of the pictures of the photo, but those were the best the seller could provide. When the print comes in, I’ll try to get a good scan of it along with my other finds. All that being said, take care.
As always, if anyone has more information on the American all-girl topless band The Ladybirds in the form of photos, written articles or even video footage, then please contact me at email@example.com
